04 | How to Get Rid of a Common Cold- Fast!

As I’m laying in the bed with a common cold, I thought it would make sense to share my tips on how to feel better when you’re feeling under the weather.

Being sick is miserable, even more so now that we’re in a pandemic. You can’t even sneeze or cough without someone thinking you have Covid.

*Disclaimer: if you’re experiencing any cold symptoms, just stay at home. I’m not a doctor or a nurse so don’t just take my advice and run off with it. And if you’re feeling severely sick please go to ER, urgent care, or call your doctors office. These tips are only what works for me and are to be used for minor common colds only.

Water is your best friend.

I get super dehydrated when I’m sick and sometimes have to force myself to drink. Your organs will thank you later. You can also simply drink some orange juice for that Vitamin C intake.

Rest but also move your body.

It’s very tempting to want to stay in bed all day long but I do not recommend this. Get up, dance, walk around, do some jumping jacks, anything to get your blood flowing and boost those endorphins at the same time.

Vitamins and medicine.

Reaching for the cold medicine is my last resort when nothing else is working. I usually go for DayQuil, NyQuil, or Tylenol. I was today years old when I found out DayQuil and NyQuil comes in gel capsule form.

Vegan elderberry gummies with echinacea & ZiCam gummies are the best! They are great for immune support. I also like to take a shot of apple cider vinegar or my Aunts Fire Apple Cider tonic and anti-viral throat spray.

Stop sniffling and blow your nose!

Every time you sniff your snot back up your nose, you’re essentially sniffing phlegm back into your body. The point of getting rid of a cold is to get out all the gunk from your system.

Also, stop holding in your coughs. You sitting up there bout to pass out cause you wanna hold it in- just let it out!

Leave the room and excuse yourself if you’re around other people though.

Invest in a humidifier and an air purifier.

If you have low indoor air quality an air purifier is best. If you suffer from air dryness, a humidifier works best. But during the winter heating season, I think it would be beneficial to have both.

Eat nourishing foods.

Soups and hot teas are the go-to for me. Green tea or lemon ginger tea during the day and chamomile at night to help me sleep. I especially like to increase my veggies and fruits as much as possible. Vegetable soups, chicken broth, chicken noodle soup, etc.
